Why Did You Start Your Business? Week of August 19th

Entrepreneur

For individuals that constantly view financial statements or business plans each business looks eerily the similar. Even sometimes the brands, logos and names make consumers scream for the days of uniqueness. Peeling back the skin of business, it is often the entrepreneur and business owner that makes a business unique. Each and every business has an entrepreneur and unique story for launching his or her business, and it is that story which make each business special.

To Fill A Personal Need

I started Compute-A-Color inc. to fill a personal need to regain math and music skills. A traumatic car crash left me with diminished memory and math skills. My brain needed color and patterns as anchors for relearning math. I designed a simple, familiar and logical color-coded math system useful for pre-K to adult basic skills and rehabilitation.

Because I Had My Own Van

I was delivering packages for a major office supply company (had to have my own delivery van) and got a call one evening, “Your services are no longer needed.” So, I said, “I have my own van, why not offer to deliver things for others?” I now deliver furniture, meals, paperwork, and meet new people every day! (Money is much better now, too!)

To Help People in Need

I started my business because I wanted to help people in need and do my part in helping our country fight the battle of hunger.

To Help with Traumas

To help others going through the traumas I'd experienced e.g. Divorce + Almost dying from cancer. I'm alive – And it's worked.

I Couldn't Find A Publishing Company to Recommend

I started Launch Pad Publishing Inc. because I had been editing books and my authors going off and doing “do-it-alone publishing” with less than stellar results. I looked around for a publishing company to recommend that would do what I thought needed to be done and couldn't find any, so I started my own.

I Saw A Gap

Weaponed with a BFA in Graphic Design and Advertising, I spent 3 years working on branding projects in a very print-collateral heavy environment before moving into the world of online marketing and branding. I saw a gap of smaller agencies that see a brand through, from brand development via printed collateral design all the way to a strong interactive presence. In the process of hiring specialists (for identity development, printed collateral and web site launches), I saw the soul of a brand vanish and its image getting diluted over time. That's when I decided to start Geyrhalter Design out of my garage in Venice Beach 11 years ago with the vision of taking on only a select amount of clients that would stay with us for a long period of time. Today we are a renowned branding agency with international clients doing exactly what I set out to do hence turning my vision statement into a reality that our clients benefit from.

To Help Singles Clarify

Most people want to love someone and be loved back. And for singles this can be challenging because they don't know where to begin. I started my business as a Dating and Relationship Coach 4 years ago is to help them clarify what they want and need in order to feel loved and to also discover and remove the blocks that are keeping that love away. Watching them ultimately giving and receiving the love they desire and deserve is immensely rewarding.

To Do A Better Job than Candles

Through the years I worked on creating a freshening product that would do a far better job than candles, was much safer, and much more environmentally friendly. In 2011, with new insight and my new business partner, Jim Eastwood, Emy Baker’s was reorganized as Emy Baker’s Originals, LLC. Our green products company now manufactures eco-friendly 100% all natural, plant based biodegradable “tea” fresheners for cars, big rigs, RV's, and boats, dorm rooms, pet areas, kitchens, bathrooms, and storage areas, shoes and closets. The versatility and portability of the fresheners make them the perfect take-a-longs on camping vacations, time shares and to alleviate the stale smell of hotel and motel rooms. Now we are creating business opportunities for individuals interested in generating income while improving the environment.
