We always ask why did you start your business. For Chloe Stirling, of Troy, Illinois, she started her venture-a cupcake business based out of her family's kitchen. The 11-year-old started her business after her mother promised to match her dollar for dollar as Chloe saved for a car. She was charging $10 for a dozen cupcakes and $2 for specialty cupcakes according to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Stirling began making $200 a month selling the cupcakes and even received press including a front-page article that appeared in the Belleville News-Democrat. After catching wind of what was going on, the Madison County Health Department put an end to her venture by telling Chole's mother, Heather Stirling , that they were shutting down the business and that they could either buy a bakery or build a kitchen separate from the one they have in their house.
Amy Yeager, a health department spokeswoman, said the county was applying the law governing businesses that sell and distribute food to the general public.
The 11-year-old entrepreneur also runs her own pet-sitting business called “No Bones About It” and maintains about a dozen year-round clients.
