Entrepreneur with Humble Beginning Continues to Prove Millennial Stereotype Wrong

Being a young entrepreneur, sooner or later there will be a large hurdle to climb over. There will be people suggesting you turn back immediately and some shaking their heads before you even come in the door. SHOLDIT founder Angela Lee hit the pavement and proved many wrong by getting her business off the ground with hard work and finding her niche. We sat down with Angela to learn more about her beginnings, how she helps the millennial cause, and tips for aspiring entrepreneurs.

What's your background and what led you to start your business?

Growing up rural, I began with a one-room, eight-student school and a grandfather saying marry rich to be successful. I took this foundation to fight for my dream in fashion. With a twenty-dollar sewing machine and no industry connections, SHOLDIT®, in just over two years, has been featured nationally and sold by top retailers. Now my mission is to inspire freedom beyond products; to encourage others to live out their passion.

Tell us about the early days of starting a business and how you got to where you are.

As mentioned, I truly had no industry connections. However, I did have the drive to network and find the right people. Trade shows are where I truly give credit and really built my contact list. I always venture to booths that look fun and exciting and make friends. From those connections, I have been able to network with their networks, earn referrals and build some of them into now treasured friendships.

Tell us about your business and what makes it unique.

I have always looked at the world and wanted to turn it on its side and question it. Normal is something I never related to. I become restless around normal. I wanted a company where “unique” and “change” are key ingredients. I feel SHOLDIT is unique from the products we offer to the members on the team all the way to our fabulous customers. We offer a lifestyle of embracing freedom.

How were you able to get in the major retailers like Bed, Bath & Beyond?

We live in a world where consumers have become so selective with their purchases. They can now research and price shop even in the comfort of their pajamas. At SHOLDIT, we work really hard to over deliver on quality and service, keep MAP pricing across the board, and make the experience fun. It’s about earning their trust and creating wins together.

How are you helping millennials?

I was very blessed to grow up around an increidble assortment of people young and old and from all walks of life. I was inspired by each and every one of them and I truly hope that my passion builds a fire in people of the present and the future. I firmly believe you can be successful at any stage in your life. You just have to want it bad enough to fight for it. I am grateful for those who helped mentor me and I try to pay it forward as much as I can.

What advice would you give to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners?

Never start a business to get rich or that you are not passionate about. If you don’t absolutely love waking up to it, think endlessly about it and want to sacrifice for it, then rethink what you are doing. It’s one of the most powerful relationships you’ll ever commit to. Also, my secret weapon has become the book Traction by Gino Wickman. It’s Uh-Mazing! Highly recommend at any stage of your business.
