16 Entrepreneurs Reveal What Entrepreneurship Means to Them

Being an entrepreneur is a source of pride. It also evidences an individual with a huge amount of discipline and focus to be able to build a business a lot of times from just an idea. It is the ambition of an entrepreneur that built the most profitable and successful companies. The only issue is that the word entrepreneurship can often vary from person to person.

#1 – Encompasses many Experiences

Entrepreneurship encompasses many experiences for me – some amazing and some not-so-amazing. I would tell new business owners that you will more than likely be the first to arrive, the last to leave and the last to get paid. Everyday is usually different and you have to be prepared for almost anything. You cannot let set backs or disappointments veer you off course. Entrepreneurship is about taking risks. Managing risk and calculating it appropriately is essential or you will crash and burn very fast. You can try to predict results, but you should always expect surprises. Also is essential for all entrepreneurs to be able to overcome failure. Working for yourself requires a steel will and you must be able to overcome obstacles and barriers daily.

#2 – 100% Accountable

What entrepreneurship means to me is that the business is mine: I get to decide what it's all about and I sink or swim by my own efforts. I'm 100 percent accountable, which is extraordinarily empowering.

#3 – Beyond Rewarding

Entrepreneurship is about working in a way that I never feel as if I need a vacation. I walk into work everyday and it does not ever feel like “work.” My business is beyond rewarding. I am able to see lives change for the better, create more connection and lasting change that will effect generations to come. Soul Legacy Therapy is all about what are you wanting to be remembered for and how can you contribute to the community as a whole. This profession [psychotherapy] allows me to balance being a wife, mother and business owner on my own terms.

#4 – Burning Fire

Entrepreneurship means to me that you have a burning fire inside to get out and make an impact in your specific field. It’s about driving forward, taking action and be willing to keep getting back up even when things knock you down. Leaving the comfort of a 9-5 job is scary for many people but striking out on your own with a dream and vision can be extremely rewarding. Your ideas, products and services can literally bring change to an industry while the jobs you create can have such a positive impact on people’s lives.

#5 – Break All the Rules

Entrepreneurship to me means to break all the rules, Taking control of your life. The way I define entrepreneurship is the same way I approach a backpacking trip. The sense of independence and the realization that you are all alone and in an unfamiliar place and all you know is that you are going to find your way and also that you are going to have fun with it.

#6 – Follow Your Dreams

Entrepreneurship is the willingness to embrace risk, shun the norm, and follow your dreams. You've got to do more than just find a problem, you've got to be excited and passionate about your solution, and ready to shout at the top of your lungs just “how great your product is.” For me, that means finding creative ways to solve my clients problems, staying ahead of design trends, keeping up with the latest marketing techniques, and building a teamof champions I can trust to put the best interests of our clients first. A lot of people may dream of being an entrepreneur, but it takes a special kind of person to knowingly choose to ride the wave of chaos that spurs from owning your own business.

#7 – Massive Value

Entrepreneurship is realization that true success depends on one thing and one thing alone, which is your ability to deliver massive value to a large number of people. With this mindset, anything one pours their hear and soul in to is about entrepreneurship.

#8 – Identifying a Market

Entrepreneurship means identifying a market need that isn't going to go away soon and delivering a product or service to fill that need that is way more simple, reliable and beautiful than the competition. That was what Steve Jobs realized about technology, i.e. that it wasn't going to go away and if you he could build computers that were simple, reliable and beautiful that he and Apple would own the world.

#9 – Parenting a Sick Child

Entrepreneurship is like parenting a sick but lovely child, only the child is an idea. You know it is dependent on you for nourishment, without you it may not survive; you will love it no matter what happens; you see the potential in it and you want the world to see it through your eyes. It keeps you up late into the night and as it grows stronger so does your pride. Soon it develops apersonality of its own, and you just cannot force it to take a direction solely on your own decision. Eventually, there comes a time when it does not need you as much and you take a different direction. It was an idea, which took form and became a part of your life. This is what entrepreneurship mean to me.

#10 – Ultimate Problem Solver

Entrepreneurship means being the ultimate problem solver that provides favorable outcomes for both themselves and the other parties involved. Entrepreneurship means thinking outside of the box and being confident enough to take risks with your idea's. It means preparation, organization and execution of everything you want to make happen. It means being in control of the way things are going around you, and understand the art of manipulation. All Entrepreneurs have strengths and weaknesses and use them accordingly, but to be an entrepreneur means understand your own strengths to accomplish your short and long term goals.

#11 – Soul of Insanity

Entrepreneurship has a soul of insanity and execution of robots. You’ve got to have the creative vision to see opportunity, then act quickly and smartly to optimize your ideas. Or, fail. Learn from failure and do it. There is no rule book or college degree that will help guide you on your individual path, you’ve got to open your mind to many possibilities and then seize on the destiny presented to you, with the precision of a machine. Stay laser-focused and committed and you’ll get there.

#12 – Doing

Entrepreneurship for me is ‘Doing'. Every single day, all of us think about things around us, how things can be done differently. We imagine what would happen if things were different, if there is a better way of doing it, a more efficient approach. But these ideas die down as the day goes by. Entrepreneurship is implementing these ideas and keep on improving it till it works in real world.

#13 – Think Outside of the Box

I would define entrepreneurship as someone who thinks outside the box when it comes to making an income source. It is taking the passion and creativity someone has and turning it into something that can provide for themselves and their families. To me personally, I love being entrepreneur because it means more time with my young family. I have a 3 year old, 18 month old, and a baby on the way. My wife and I both run online businesses and are able to do things with our kids on our time. I have never been a person who works well under someone as my boss. I like to be in control of my own hours and work as hard or as little as I want to to get the results needed, and being an entrepreneur lets me do just that. I have taken my hobby of getting good deals from flea markets, thrift stores and yard sales and selling them online, and turned it into a full time gig. I now teach other people to do the same so they can enjoy their hard work and benefits of being an entrepreneur!

#14 –  Talented and Gifted

Entrepreneurs are talented and gifted. Talented to see the opportunities others don't spot in the first place. But they need to be gifted too – to gift those ideas not only to their target market, but also to others with skill-sets which complement their own.And entrepreneurs need to be made of rubber (UK – US = latex )to bounce back.

#15 – Hear one word a lot: NO

Being an entrepreneur means you are going to hear one word a lot: “no.” Being a successful entrepreneur means using those “no's” to fuel your motivation — to drive your business. Waking up every morning at 6 a.m. to send e-mails, to make phone calls – running your business is much easier when you have that drive. Very little separates the successful entrepreneur from the one who doesn't make it. Usually the failure lies with the entrepreneur, not the idea, and most of it comes down to losing your motivation and drive. The most important thing is knowing when to quit — it's not giving up – it's making you available to move on to bigger and brighter things.”

#16 – Rising Up to the Challenge

Entrepreneurship means making a commitment to rising up to the challenge and finding your way around obstacles. It also means starting your business in a climate that will involve people telling you what you cannot do and what will be hard for you. You need to stay positive and prove those people wrong. There is nothing more rewarding than making a huge accomplishment and being able to say, “I did that.” You will find success in loving your work and communicating that passion.
