Workplace Expert Helping Deliver New Tools and Methods For Influence and Leadership

Every business deserves to be unique in its mode of operations while operating in a digital environment. Jessica Higgins, JD MBA BB is a public speaker, strategist and published author who helps businesses achieve their desired outcomes in a changing environment. She is Chief Operating Officer of Gapingvoid Culture Design Group. Her mission is to help others. We had an opportunity to interview Jessica and asked about her story, why she started her business and the future of her career.

Tell us your story. Why did you start your business?

Great ideas are all about timing. I had my own consulting firm, and met my CEO who had a creative agency. He wanted to be in consulting, I wanted new ways to influence people. So we collaborated and this was born.

How did you come up with your business name?

Our name comes from our Lead Artist, who has had internet fame since 2004 online as @Gapingvoid. I rebranded us as Gapingvoid Culture Design Group to represent the expanded scope of our work, while paying tribute to the original company’s roots of creativity and online disruption.

Tell us about your products and services. How do you help clients?

We deliver end-to-end culture design using measurable, scalable tools to impact the human layer of your business in ways that improve operational outcomes. This is an imperative in the new world of work, where younger workforces and shifting digital environments have caused classic business tools to fail.

What makes you unique? What is your unique selling proposition (USP)?

We design and deliver more effective and creative ways to lead people. Our team of researchers and practitioners have combined the best of every management and human discipline to deliver new tools and methods for influence. While other consulting firms are preaching about case studies and best practices (most of which are before the millennial workforce, or even the internet was born), we’re designing for what works in work now, and in the future.

Where do you see your business in the next 3-5 years?

My prediction is that in 3 to 5 years businesses that succeed will be purely digital, meaning that goes for us as well.

Any advice you would give to entrepreneurs and business owners?

Collaborate with people completely different than you as much as possible. That’s where great ideas are born.

What is your favorite business quote and why?

Definitely, Elon Musk’s first principles thinking, which defines my thinking, and is a good reminder when I get lost on an idea:

“I think it’s important to reason from first principles rather than by analogy. The normal way we conduct our lives is we reason by analogy. [With analogy] we are doing this because it’s like something else that was done, or it is like what other people are doing. [With first principles] you boil things down to the most fundamental truths…and then reason up from there.”

What have been some of your achievements that you are most proud of? Why?

Right now I’m redesigning a very male dominated industry for diversity. I won’t say which one. I never thought days like this would come, and as a woman, I am so grateful to be part of this transformation.
