Entrepreneur Builds Multimillion Dollar Company after Dropping out of College

Technology tycoon Steve Jobs, Vogue Editor-In-Chief Anna Wintour, media mogul Ted Turner, and business magnate Bill Gates all have something in common aside from their unparalleled success – they lack a college degree. Despite what today’s youth are convinced to believe, college isn't the only path to success. Steve “The Hurricane” dropped out of college to build his multimillion-dollar company, Hurricane Marketing Enterprises. From a young age, Steve has been driven to succeed and excelled across vastly different industries. Steve founded his company in 2012 with a goal to help other business owners around the globe. In a few short years, he grew it to a seven-figure business and it has been booming ever since. Steve is determined to reach the millennial demographic to help them navigate the real world and learn how to be successful in their retrospective industries. We had a chance to interview Steve and asked about his story, how he started his business and the future of Hurricane Marketing Enterprises.

Tell us your story. Why did you start your business?

I started my business for two reasons.  First was that I used to own a different type of business (Home Care) for 7 years.  During my time there we did incredible things I thought all businesses of this type were doing.  When we sold that company and became part of a large corporation with many locations, I quickly realized what we did was special.  So I started the company first to help other Home Care companies thrive.

Second, I have been an entrepreneur my entire life.  The entrepreneurial spirit flows through my veins, and so this time around I wanted to have my own supportive company, helping other business owners experience the success I have at an early age.

How did you come up with your business name?

Easy, I have been known regionally as Steve “The Hurricane” since 2006. When I started in 2012, I decided I would keep that nickname.  In 2013 I trademarked my name, and so now I am the only Steve “The Hurricane” in the world.  Hurricane Marketing Enterprises belongs to HIM (haha).

Tell us about your products and services. How do you help clients?

Training and Coaching.  The training can be completed in several ways.  First would be attending one of our events.  We call them “Boot Camps”.  Second, we offer a variety of online training courses via modules, webinars, and both live/recorded videos.  Finally, we have private training where I would fly out to do a field visits as a consultant.  As for the coaching, that is exactly what it sounds like, business coaching.  We focus on scaling and growing your business, but we also help with HR, Compliance, Recruiting, and so on.  The highest level of coaching, would be our Mastermind program, where members meet several times a year at a variety of places for a 3-day intensive where day 1 focuses on personal development, day 2 the business, and day 3 as a “Fun Day” keeping with the mantra of “Work Hard, Play Hard”.

What makes you unique? What is your unique selling proposition (USP)?

Our Niche!  We are Home Care, Hospice, and Home Health focused.  While we have other divisions that are budding and taking off, being specific to this arena really separates us from the competition and allows for the system I created to shine brightest.  There is no greater feeling than someone who invested in my company providing feedback like “This is so much more than I expected”.  I live for those types of comments!

Where do you see your business in the next 3-5 years?

The Small Business and Mindful Caring Divisions taking off and eclipsing the revenue generated from Home Care.  Mindfulness is everywhere, and we created a certification program to help improve outcomes for all of the healthcare industry, while significantly reducing worker’s compensation claims.  For the wise investing companies out there, they will save thousands, if not millions, in losses due to this program.  As for the Small Business coaching, I love seeing entrepreneurs thrive and again, when we launched the pilot feedback was staggering.  Scaling a business isn't that hard when you know what you're doing.  We take experts in their field and help them scale it.  That's powerful.  So, that's where I see HME come 2023.

Any advice you would give to entrepreneurs and business owners?

Start of your day taking care of yourself first!  My morning ritual can make or break my day (if I miss it). I give glory to God first and foremost, seeking Him and His Kingdom immediately upon rising.  I read scripture, pray, and meditate.  After, I hit the gym to get my body going.  I then eat breakfast and spend time with my family.  All before ever opening my computer or email.  This 3 hours or so helps me focus on what's important to me (My God, My Body, and My Family) so that by the time I step into the office I am READY TO SERVE OTHERS!  That's ultra-important in any business

What is your favorite business quote and why?

Proverbs 27:17 “Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another” – It's not JUST a business quote.  I share it at every event I speak at because as entrepreneurs, we are forged into sheets of iron in order to survive.  As a sheet of iron myself, it's my responsibility to sharpen my fellow man.

What have been some of your achievements that you are most proud of? Why?

In 2016 and 2017, I received Gold Records for being one of the most influential speakers in the world.  I belong to a speaking group called “The Speaking Empire” and I speak 20-25x a year.  To get this award knowing there are 2000 speakers in this group, is a great honor to me.

Anything else additional you want to tell our readers?

I don't want to put anyone off, but some of the most successful people I know (We are talking Billionaires) understand that they too serve a master. (God) Surrender to Him, put Him number 1 in your life, and you will truly have the “Abundant Life”.
