14 Entrepreneurs List Their Favorite Business Blogs

We all have that one business blog that addresses our pain points and motivates us to press on. As an entrepreneur, there's also need to stay informed about the latest trends in our respective industries where most of this information can be found on business blogs. Some of these blogs are industry-specific while others are general in nature and they contribute immensely to out business growth through the tips they provide.

We asked entrepreneurs and business owners about their go-to business blogs and here's what they had to say;

#1- SmallBizDaily

I recommend SmallBizDaily as one of my go-to business blogs.  Rieva Lesonsky is the force behind SmallBizDaily and is perfectly equipped for the task!  She is a widely published author specializing in small business matters and the former editor of Entrepreneur Magazine.  She has years of experience and expertise in all things small business!  As such, Rieva carefully curates stories that will empower and encourage small business owners.  She particularly pays close attention to how trends align with new technologies, offering small businesses a competitive edge and a fighting chance against their Big Box counterparts.  For instance, her recent advice on voice searches has helped our business, Allegory Gallery, get found locally!  The best part is that if you head over to Twitter, you can keep up with not only SmallBizDaily, but others of interest blogs and articles, plus she's very responsive and always helpful.

Thanks to Andrew Thornton, Allegory Gallery!

He's an executive leadership coach but his blogs posts are right on for anyone who wants to or need to lead themselves, a team, or a business. His posts are short and to the point and always contain actionable items. Plus, he's always got a great image of a handwritten quote of his own creation!

#3- Entrepreneur

One of my favorite business blogs or sources for daily business/marketing information is on Entrepreneur. I get the articles via Feedly and read them there. I find the content useful for my own learning and to share with my audience. In particular, the marketing, PR and digital media ideas and opinions are relevant, timely and on topic.
Experts know their stuff!

#4- Search Engine Land

The blogs that I follow have to show me the latest trends and tools to stay competitive for our clients in the digital marketing industry. I love Search Engine Land for that reason, it's a collection of writers that value providing insight to experts in the industry, and they often will have case studies about digital marketing to share and compare with.

#5- Being Boss

I can not get enough of Kathleen Shannon and Emily Thompson over at BeingBoss. They have an inspirational podcast and an absolute ton of helpful content on their blog. My favorite part about these two is the unique approach they give to business advice. Aside from the interviews they do, they often talk about tricky but common business situations and how they handle it for their own separate companies. They both have different personalities so you get two unique perspectives on every situation.

#6- Buffer blog

Buffer is a social media management platform, and I have been using the software for over 2 years now to manage the social media accounts of the brands I work with. I discovered their blog a little over a year back, and it's become a staple business resource for my own development as a Marketer. Buffer Blog goes beyond Social Media Marketing or their own news. They have insightful articles on Online Marketing, Design, News and Trends, and more. And they also talk about what's it like to work and manage a remote team, being a remote worker, and so on. For example, they have articles on how to choose the best times to post on your social media channels, and they also share articles on how to boost productivity and morale within a remote team working all across the globe for a brand. Being a work-from-home Solepreneur, the Buffer blog provides me the technical as well as the personal side of working (from home as a remote worker) in Digital Marketing. And that's why it's my absolute favorite business blog.

#7- The Ahrefs Blog

Every day I try to do my best to promote our brand and that is why I opt to master the skill of SEO and internet marketing. Ahrefs blog provides essential information on how to use certain methods and solutions to successfully promote your brand. What is more, they provide a lot of useful tips & tricks that you can only get to know after a few years of working as a marketing specialist. Also – what is a really great resource – they publish actual case studies which then can be put into life for the reason of promoting your own brand. Of course, to make the most of what Ahrefs Blog provides you have to use their software, but I guess every marketing specialist already does that.

#8-The Farnam Street Blog

The Farnam Street Blog is far-and-away the blog that I recommend the most when asked ‘which blog should I be reading?’ It focuses on mental models, fundamental knowledge that can be used as lenses to view the many scenarios that show up in business. Business owners and entrepreneurs face so many unique situations, and may only do so once, so retaining all the facts needed to deal with them is an impossible task. Farnam Street teaches the reader instead to focus on unchanging principles from multiple disciplines that can be applied to many different scenarios. It has the most useful information, word for word, on any blog. Their readership consists of CEOs, entrepreneurs, business owners, and those just looking to improve their understanding of how the world actually works.

#9- Mark Sessel

Mark Sessel is a financial consultant, business adviser, executive/ life coach, and business owner. Mark moved his business to Colorado, and as a consequence spends some time going on trips to the outdoors. His blogs are about taking life and business lessons from the challenges he faces on his adventures. His blogs prove that true optimism is borne out of being refreshingly honest, as opposed to being upset by unrealistic expectations.

#10- Smart Passive Income

One of my favorite business blogs is Smart Passive Income by Pat Flynn. I've started reading his blog 7 years ago and it has significantly impacted my life since then. Pat Flynn mostly writes about affiliate marketing and blogging. I've learned the concepts of affiliate marketing on his blog and now I'm running a successful publishing website. The reality is that I'm reading 20+ blogs on that topic and I can never attribute my knowledge to a single blog but if I had to choose just 1 blog this would be it.

#11- Gates notes

This single blog has immensely guided me on my entrepreneurial journey; feeding my mind with the best books to read, innovations in the technology space along with condensed business lessons straight from Bill Gates. The blog is always overflowing with information and tips to inspire entrepreneurs to unleash their best, even when nothing seems to be going their way. Even if someone is not looking for self-help or book suggestions, the blog gives enough fodder for thought by invoking interest about how we see the world and the way it shapes our actions and ideology. What mesmerizes me about the blog are the short reads with a personal angle that can be consumed in less than 3 minutes, which is a top priority for busy entrepreneurs pressed for time in their daily schedule.

#12-Neil Patel

It offers insights into all aspects of Marketing, SEO and business tactics. There is always something more to learn. Neil Patel is an influential figure in the field of marketing and provides an in-depth explanation of concepts, tips and tricks along with real-world examples of implementation. He includes his own work and experiences with full transparency and is always accurate with his information. You can find content in the form of articles, podcasts, videos, comprehensive guides, infographics etc. His other blog called Quicksprout is another one of my favorites.

#13-ProfitWell

Though it changes over time, right now my favorite business blog is ProfitWell. It’s a video blog, so it’s easy to digest, and it's run by an intelligent guy who talks about SaaS pricing. Before pricing was not something we focused on—it was just something we ‘set and forget'—but ProfitWell made me reevaluate our pricing, simplify it, and ultimately focus our efforts on value. It's made me realize that we need to focus on the types of people that are likely to want particular types of features, and the value they'll get from it. Where in the past we would have just included those features for free, we now spend time thinking about the value they provide and whether we should charge more for them, or even whether they should be a core product. The best thing I've learned is how ProfitWell analyzes features in a matrix, ultimately looking at whether people expect the feature to be included or would be willing to pay more for it.
