The History Channel is premiering an eight-hour event series called The Men Who Built America on Tuesday, October 16 at 9 p.m. and will chronicle the lives of Cornelius Vanderbilt, John D. Rockefeller, Andrew Carnegie, J.P. Morgan and Henry Ford.

Short Biography of Andrew Carnegie
Andrew Carnegie was one of the most important philanthropists of his era. Born in Scotland, Carnegie built Pittsburgh's Carnegie Steel Company which was later merged with Elbert H. Gary's Federal Steel Company and several small companies to develop U.S. Steel. With his fortune he built Carnegie Hall, founded the Carnegie Corporation of New York, Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, Carnegie Institution of Washington, Carnegie Mellon University and the Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh. Most of the wealth that he spent on libraries and universities around the world he earned from the steel industry. He was often regarded as the second richest man in history behind John D. Rockefeller.
