Passion and hard work will take you to your destiny. Marshall Chesrown has tested and tried several business ventures, some of which came crumbling down after rapid development. He stresses on the importance of having passion in a business venture as the only thing that can help you face the storms in business. As someone who never went to college, Marshall attributes his achievements to pure hard work. We had a chance to interview Marshall and asked about his story, how he started his business and the future of RumbleOn.
Tell us your story. Why did you start your business?
I’ve paid particular attention to the evolving consumer buying habits over the years and noticed there was a disconnect between customer desires and what the automotive and powersports industries were providing. What consumers really want is an experience that removes risk, emphasizes efficiency, and fosters trust between the buyer and seller. The brick and mortar experience of the past might hit some of these points, but I believe that a 100 percent digital platform is what the consumer of today is seeking. This line of thinking is what led me to create RumbleOn.com.
How did you come up with your business name?
We all know the sound a bike makes when you start it up — that roar of the engine and shake of the seat. With our platform, riders can get on the road faster, easier, and safer than ever before, making that rumble and experience a much more frequent occurrence.
Tell us about your products and services. How do you help clients?
RumbleOn was designed to change the way consumers buy and sell powersports vehicles. This is an industry that has been archaic in its processes for a long time, limiting the ability to create liquidity for consumers. To sell a bike or powersport vehicle, you would have to turn to a listing site like eBay or Craigslist that utilizes peer to peer sales which isn’t very efficient. Our platform provides consumers the chance to create liquidity of their assets in a more efficient and entirely online option. RumbleOn’s online platform not only creates liquidity for the seller, but offers a reliable and more comprehensive experience for buyers. There are no peer to peer transactions taking place, and financing is handled by RumbleOn.
What makes you unique? What is your unique selling proposition (USP)?
RumbleOn customers have all of the control. No one is coerced into taking a deal that is unsatisfactory, which helps build an environment of trust. Paired with that is the ease of a 100 percent digital platform, ensuring that customers can get paid, trade, or buy the powersport vehicle of their dreams faster and safer than ever.
Where do you see your business in the next 3-5 years?
The scalability and rapid growth of RumbleOn have been incredible to witness. We continue to see the growth rate of cash offers accelerating and are already on track to exceed the audacious revenue goals we’ve set for ourselves. With a recent announcement signaling our expansion into the boat and RV industry, the stage is set for a world of new developments.
Any advice you would give to entrepreneurs and business owners?
I’m someone that never went to college, nor have I ever considered myself the smartest person in the room. To anyone with the same background, know that you can succeed and thrive by being the hardest worker in the room. Some people are handed things in life, and yes, that might give them a step up over you, but know that you can climb just as fast and far if you are diligent, patient and bold.
What is your favorite business quote and why?
You’ve heard the cliche: “don’t put all your eggs in one basket.” As a seasoned entrepreneur, I can reassure you that this is tried-and-true. I’ve experienced rapid development and watched it come crashing down. This is a situation that many will witness, and if you can weather the storm, it will make you stronger and smarter. For all entrepreneurs starting out, know that it's great to be excited about what you do, but take care of yourself and your passions in the process.
What have been some of your achievements that you are most proud of? Why?
With humble beginnings and a crew of devoted leaders, we launched a website, began the RumbleOn platform and took it public at lightning speed. I think this is an achievement in itself and says something about the people who have dedicated their time to making this happen. Nothing positive is accomplished without a great team behind it, and I’m proud to say that we have built an exceptional group of innovators at RumbleOn.
Anything else additional you want to tell our readers?
While other markets may not survive the changes that Millennials and Gen Z demand, building a digital platform that emphasizes ease and efficiency while spanning the entire customer journey has made it easier for the first-time rider to embrace the lifestyle. Because of this, we’re seeing increased sales from both younger generations and female riders, demographics not commonly associated with the powersports industry. So, if you fall into one of these categories and are interested in riding, RumbleOn just might be perfect for you. Last — we want to connect with you! Find us on Twitter and Facebook.
