30 Entrepreneurs Describe The Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) For Their Business

Have a goal that third parties think is impossible? Often entrepreneurs and business owners create their daily, weekly, quarterly or yearly goals around their business. It could be more revenue, hiring clients or launching a new product or service, where setting goals presents a fresh opportunity to achieve different objectives. Some of the goals may sound unrealistic or unachievable to someone but if you and your team believe in it, there’s no reason why you should not go for it.

We asked entrepreneurs to share their Big Hairy Audacious Goals (BHAGs) and here are the insightful responses.

#1- Become a self-running machine

My BHAG is to have my business become a self-running machine. Right now, we have a great management staff but a lot of responsibilities still fall under me. Over the next few years, I hope to be able to step back and focus on other entrepreneurial endeavors while my business continues to grow and thrive, providing the same great customer experience.

#11- Crash other competitors

Our BHAG is to crash other competitors in the niche. Having this BHAG inspires us to be constantly better than our competitors. We may not occupy a big market share, but we sure will give better services and better value to our customers. To think of it, having this goal in mind has created a strategic advantage for our business because it provides a focal point for everything that we do as a business, and how we handle our customers as a business.

#12- Digitize operations

My BHAG is to digitalize 98% of our services within a period of five years. This means that every service can then be ordered through an app, and the waiting time to not be longer than seven minutes. Complementary to this, I aspire to expand the business throughout a wide range of countries, including U.S. and Europe and also contribute to the overall goal of reducing global emissions by replacing cars which operate on fuels with electric cars.

#13- Scale into a leading tool

My BHAG is to help scale this company into developing the world's number one people search service tool. And while our platform is currently limited to the United States, my goal is to expand our search algorithm and resource database into spanning the entire world, be it in Europe, Asia, South America, Africa, etc. The idea that we may someday be able to scale our platform to help users find information on almost anybody in the world is absolutely exciting to think about and as audacious as the idea may be, I am truly determined to stomp out the competition and do my best to turn that goal into a reality.

I have always admired the adaptability of Amazon’s supply chain and the way they are able to cope with the immense changes as a company in a smooth fashion. So, my BHAG is to have a team of such skilled individuals along with the resources to be able to execute huge changes in my services without causing disruption in the existing channels.

My BHAG is to become the go-to copywriting and design studio for coaches and creatives. When I started my copywriting business, I would take on large projects, even if they didn't interest me. Defining my BHAG came down to the question, “What kind of projects lights me up, and which voices do I want to amplify with my work?” I think so many people start big goals with metrics. But for me, the ultimate goal is having the freedom to do work I believe in and enjoy.

#20- Turn my business into a passion

My BHAG is making every aspect of my business journey something I am 100% passionate about. The good thing about online publishing is that you are 100% in control of what you put on your website. So, every time I have an idea for my website, I always ask myself, “Am I passionate about this subject? Will I still be passionate about it in 10 years? Am I excited about talking about this particular subject to my audience or do I do it just for the views?” I believe that you can only be fulfilled in your business if you like every single aspect of it. So, I'm quite decided to sieve out any part I don't like and focus on anything that gives me that dopamine rush.

#21- Be the most sought-out option for cheap sports tickets

My BHAG is for my business to be the most sought-out option for cheap sports tickets. These tickets can get expensive and I want as many people to know that we can alleviate their concerns around this issue. Through doing so, I want people to feel like they can go out and have a good time at a sporting event easily, especially after the quarantine period we all experienced within the past year and a half.

My BHAG is to provide British vehicle owners with the largest selection of private number plates that suit their pockets. #28- Grow and leverage LinkedIn followers

My BHAG is to grow my LinkedIn followers to 20,000 and leverage the audience's size to get a book deal. I'm writing a book about how leaders can optimize both their professional and personal lives. On the professional side, the focus will be cultivating a deeper level of self, peer, and team awareness, making the right hires faster, leading equitably and building a comprehensive talent strategy that aligns people with the mission. On the personal side, the focus will be on connecting to oneself, growing relationships with others, moving the body, rejuvenation, and the power of nutrition and hydration. I look forward to making a more significant impact and building my brand as a leader in the people/culture and health/wellness space.

Thanks to Liz Palmieri-Coonley, MVP-Results!

#29- Become a household name

Our BHAG is to turn our business into a household name in 10 years, and make it the only name in the odor-protection space! To be a household name, we have to outcompete deodorants, fabric fresheners, and other such products, which is no easy feat. But we created our products from the best science and best ingredients from nature, and the performance is unrivaled, so its now a matter of drive. Our view is that by getting our products into the hands of consumers, they will see the difference.

Thanks to Joseph Richardson, SWIFF!

#30- Become a small giant

My Big Hairy Audacious Goal is for my company to become a small giant. Hailing from a small town, I’ve seen many startups leave for bigger cities because more opportunities exist there. I can relate to them as a businessman, but it is still infuriating to see these companies go. This is why my goal is to stay here and become a small giant. The people in this small town helped build and grow my business, and I intend to serve their
needs for as long as I can. I plan to prove to those bigger companies that we can grow to a sizable business right here in this small town.

Thanks to Tom Cafarella, Ocean City Development!
