Entrepreneurs, How has your brand evolved since day one?

Building a successful brand is rarely a straight path. What starts as an idea, passion project, or small business often evolves through customer feedback, market shifts, new opportunities, and valuable lessons learned along the way. As brands grow, so do their values, messaging, products, and the impact they create.

30 Entrepreneurs Reflect on Their Brands' Evolution

From refining their mission and expanding their offerings to adapting their identity and connecting with new audiences, every brand transformation tells a unique story. We asked entrepreneurs and business leaders to reflect on how their brands have changed over time, the challenges they faced, and the key moments that shaped their growth—and here’s what they shared:

How Franchise Brokers Help Buyers Make Smarter Franchise Choices

1. Into something much more strategic

When I first launched Backstory Co., the business was far more execution-focused, creating content, managing campaigns and helping brands show up consistently. Over time, it evolved into something much more strategic. Today, Backstory Co. operates more like an extension of our clients’ internal teams – blending strategy, storytelling, brand positioning and project management to help businesses grow with more clarity and consistency. The evolution really came from listening to our clients' backstory and what they actually needed.

Thanks to Elana Panayiotou, Backstory Co.!

2. Challenging Industry Norms Through Innovation

When we started Lantech in 2022, we made every classic first-time founder mistake. We focused on things that seemed important at the time, but the real evolution wasn't the product – it was learning to challenge our own assumptions about what was supposed to be hard. Instead of accepting industry norms, we started questioning them. That mindset changed everything. Day one Lantech was building the same model with cheaper pricing. Today Lantech is building a different model entirely, called automated property management, and challenging norms that have been stagnant for decades is where the real value is.

Thanks to Dhruvisha Gosai, Lantech!

3. Growing beyond a single space

Nomadic Recovery evolved significantly from day one because the vision became much bigger than just offering ice baths and saunas. What started as a simple recovery space built around community, consistency, and no-frills wellness gradually became a recognised destination for people serious about performance and recovery. That challenge ultimately pushed the brand toward its next evolution: merging with another recovery centre. By joining forces, Nomadic evolved into part of a comprehensive all-inclusive recovery circuit with a permanent facility and a broader range of services.

Thanks to Mick Simpson, Nomadic Recovery!

4. Building purpose through persistence

Growth & Purpose was our journey from a small office. The big key was determination. We wanted to do something that would have some meaning. We developed our reputation and customer base built from scratch. It took hard work and persistence to create our systems. Over the years we have heard our customers and this has helped us to grow. We didn't go along with the crowd, we made a difference. Resilience and consistency are our guiding values. These values are quality, trust and community. We saw not only a larger size, we saw a larger purpose and impact.

Thanks to Justin Crabbe, Jettly!

5. Following the market’s demand

Switchboard Finance started as a one-man non-bank brokerage writing equipment loans. Within two months, the brand evolved into something broader: the go-to resource for self-employed borrowers who'd been told no by a bank. The brand didn't pivot. The market told us where the gap was and we followed it. The core hasn't changed: connect business owners to the right lender. But the positioning sharpened from ‘finance broker' to ‘the specialist you call when the bank says no.'

Thanks to Nick Lim, Switchboard Finance!

6. Growing through listening

Since launching Neon Goat, the brand has evolved enormously. We originally launched online with two core products and a very clear mission. But over time, as we listened closely to our customers and community, the brand naturally started expanding in both direction and confidence. We’ve evolved our product range through innovation and customer feedback. Brands need room to breathe, adapt and grow alongside their audience. Building a brand is never static. It’s a constant process of listening, refining, innovating and growing while staying true to the original purpose.

Thanks to Jackie Baron, Neon Goat!

7. Evolving without losing purpose

When I started Wall Art Collective it wasn't some perfectly polished brand with a five-year plan in mind. I had to frequently readjust my approach with everything, and we went through multiple iterations to get to where we are today. Since then the brand has grown into something much more practical and customer-focused. We still care about helping people discover art they may not have found otherwise, but the brand has evolved to make those answers clear and the choices clearer, all while keeping the heart of it intact.

Thanks to Sam Prater, Wall Art Collective!

8. More than a product

When I first started Hendrix Pet Co, it was just about earning my own money after helping walk dogs. At the beginning, I was focused on selling treats, but the brand has grown into something bigger. Now people recognise Hendrix Pet Co for the story behind it, meeting customers at markets and dog parks, and inspiring other kids to try business ideas too. I’ve learned that a brand isn’t just a product, it’s how people feel when they meet you and follow your journey. As I grow, the business grows with me.

Thanks to Hendrix DeMarchii, Hendrix Pet Co!

9. From broad positioning to bold leadership

When I first started my business, my brand was trying to be everything to everyone, which made it pretty forgettable. Over time, I realised my real strength was in leadership. That shift changed everything. My brand is now far more focused, more direct, and less concerned with fitting in. I'm not trying to cover all bases anymore and I pride myself on being bold in a sea of beige. I'm not afraid to challenge how leaders think, show up and perform, and I build my brand the same way.

Thanks to Riaza Manrick, Reimagining Business!

10. Becoming more human

Our brand started as a straight SEO agency, but over time it evolved into something much more reflective of my own personality. Back then, I was focused almost entirely on rankings, lead gen and proving ROI. Today, the brand stands more for relentless execution and documenting the process publicly, including failures. We became less corporate over the years and more story-driven because people buy energy before they buy services. Being slightly rough around the edges has become an actual competitive advantage.

Thanks to Deepak Shukla, Pearl Lemon!

11. Flexibility over complexity

When we launched Corcava, we noticed businesses were exhausted from juggling disconnected tools just to run daily operations. The industry kept pushing “all-in-one” platforms that actually created more complexity and less autonomy for teams. So we rebuilt the idea around flexibility instead of control. One insight shaped our evolution: developers and employees consistently value autonomy more than rigid workflows. Today, our platform focuses less on forcing structure and more on giving companies adaptable systems that match how people actually work.

Thanks to Gregory Shein, Corcava!

12. Expanding beyond conventional labels

On day one, my brand was anchored in the personal transformation space, operating under the standard label of life coaching with a core mission to help people follow their true essence and live coherently. However, my work always possessed far more depth than that conventional box allowed. The brand completely transformed how it packages and consults this wisdom. It evolved from a personal alignment practice into a high-level bio-systemic advisory that bridges the gap between biological resonance and corporate architecture, recalibrating the human hardware at the helm of enterprise.

Thanks to Ana Angelique Divin, Your True North!

13. From services to leadership

My brand has evolved significantly since day one because I have evolved significantly as a business owner. My focus was largely on offering services and proving my value. Over time, my brand shifted from simply what I do to what I stand for: empowering ambitious women to scale profitable online businesses, elevate their standards, and step fully into CEO leadership. As my experience and results grew, so did the sophistication of my messaging and client experience. Today, my brand is far more intentional, premium, and aligned with the transformation I help my clients create.

Thanks to Sasha Eburne

14. From rapid experimentation to customer-led growth

Our brand evolved from a scrappy, early-stage idea driven by speed and experimentation into a more structured, customer-led business focused on long-term value and retention. In the beginning, the priority was simply getting products and messaging out quickly and seeing what resonated. Over time, customer feedback, data, and real-world performance reshaped everything from our positioning to how we communicate value. Today, the brand is far more intentional, less about chasing every opportunity and more about doubling down on what actually drives results and trust.

Thanks to Alex Robinson, KickCashback!

15. Evolving with experience

Running a business for 22 years involves change, and how your brand evolves determines your success. Success can look like scaling or pivoting to an analogous field, just as enjoyable as your first venture. For me, my brand began as public relations representing small business owners. It has evolved into writing for and coaching the same executives on their writing projects and goals. That can be a personal or business goal, like writing a specialized toolkit guide or a memoir. It has been throughly rewarding to help colleagues realize their writing goals.

Thanks to Susan Nefzger, SnefzgerPR!

16. Designing for real travel, not just style

Club Moda USA started as a single conviction: women who travel deserved resort wear that didn't read as either disposable beachwear or matronly cover-up. Today the brand has evolved into a full destination wardrobe built around how a woman actually packs. Early on, we made beautiful pieces. Now we design entire packing capsules. The brand evolved when we stopped designing for the photo and started designing for the suitcase. That shift helped us think more deeply about how women actually travel and dress throughout a trip. Every addition to the collection is designed to bring more versatility and ease to the travel experience.

Thanks to Jaswinder Bindra, Club Moda USA!

17. Separating the brand and the voice

When I started Creditte, I did not think much about the difference between my personal brand and the business brand. They were the same thing by default. Over time that changed. Creditte developed its own identity around a specific promise: accounting that actually helps you run your business, not just report on it. The two reinforce each other but they are not the same thing. Keeping that distinction clear has made both stronger. It also allowed the business to stand on its own while continuing to build trust with clients. As both evolved, their individual roles became clearer and more effective.

Thanks to Morgan Wilson, Creditte!

18. From doing everything to leading

Having owned companies in both the arts and fitness industries, I’ve seen how fragmented and time-consuming it can be to build something sustainable. When we first created Fitesque, my husband and I did everything, including the backend, which gave me a clear understanding of the challenges instructors face. As Fitesque has grown, so has my leadership. I’ve moved from doing it all to leading a team that implements and refines the systems behind the scenes. Together, we’ve built a streamlined platform that allows instructors to focus on their creativity and build thriving businesses.

Thanks to Melony Cherrett, Fitesque!

19. Beyond traditional SEO

My brand has grown from being a traditional SEO agency into a company that helps law firms build real long term value. Back in the early days, most of the conversations were simply about rankings, traffic, and getting more leads in the door. Today, things are a lot broader. We help firms improve visibility across search, AI platforms, intake, operations, and overall business growth because the way clients find and choose firms is changing really fast. These days, I spend a lot more time helping business owners understand where the industry is headed and what they can do to stay competitive.

Thanks to Ivan Vislavskiy, Comrade Digital Marketing Agency!

20. From bold to bolder

When I launched, I knew I wasn't going to be a conventional celebrant – but I didn't quite know how far I'd go. My brand has essentially escalated continuously since day one, and I've just kept following every sacral yes. I'm a Perth-based wedding and funeral celebrant, MC, and event host, and what started as “a bit different” has evolved into something deliberately polarising, with sexual innuendo-based wedding package names and a funeral arm called Happy Endings. It turns out the more true to my personality I get in business, the better it works.

Thanks to Ashlee Bunney

21. Building trust over time

When I started, I was just a guy who loved real estate and wanted to help people find homes. Over time, the brand grew because the results did the talking. The hardest thing I did was stop making it about me personally and build something bigger. We stopped chasing every deal and started focusing on earning trust. The look of the brand got updated along the way, but the values stayed untouched. Honest advice, real results, no games. Today the brand feels like a reflection of the community we serve.

Thanks to Jeff Burke, Jeff Burke & Associates!

22. Purpose beyond transactions

When I started, I just wanted to sell houses. The brand grew because my values got clearer. Early on, I was chasing transactions. Now I'm building something that actually means something to people. That shift changed everything. Once we tied real estate to community impact, people saw us differently. We weren't just another realty group anymore. Our team culture became the brand. The business evolved from a transaction-focused agency into a community-driven brand by getting clear on values, leaning into purpose, and letting culture do the marketing.

Thanks to Betsy Pepine, Pepine Realty Group!

23. Creating a sustainable ecosystem

Our brand has evolved from a local marketplace for second-hand strollers into a nationwide, service-driven ecosystem for sustainable parenting. We started focused on the resale of preloved baby gear, but quickly realised parents needed a trusted way to keep their existing gear rolling safely. By rebranding into Buggy Clinic, we shifted from a transactional retail shop to a highly specialised service model offering repairs, hygienic valeting, and eco-recycling. Our evolution has been about transforming from a local hidden gem into a national brand focused on safety and sustainability.

Thanks to Hannah Selby, BuggyClinic!

24. Embracing what makes you different

When I started my business as a Virtual Assistant, I had no idea about branding or identity. I picked colours I liked and followed what I thought being “professional” looked like. As I moved into Online Business Management and grew in confidence, my brand evolved alongside me. I stopped trying to fit into the polished online business mould and started leaning into what actually made me memorable. As I stepped into speaking, podcasting, and hosting live events, I've become known as “the lady in red” thanks to my signature red suit.

Thanks to Cat Dunn

25. From personal brand to industry recognition

I started as a solopreneur, niching in the personal branding consultancy space, leveraging over 20 years of experience working in large branding agencies. The Ultimate Business Propeller launched as an online program, with 1:1 coaching upsells. I won international awards for my approach, then merged my business to form The Audacious Agency. The brand has evolved from a blend of PR and branding into a profile-building powerhouse, with a 97% success rate and a reputation for quality, concierge services that shine a light on extraordinary changemakers and innovators around the globe.

Thanks to Lauren Clemett, The Audacious Agency!

26. Shifting from operational support to people-first leadership

When I first started, most of the work was focused on helping companies fix immediate operational issues and keep things moving. As the years went by, the business naturally became more centered around people, leadership, and long-term relationships. Working closely with business owners and teams showed me that growth isn’t only about systems or numbers. Instead of focusing on short-term solutions, I became more invested in helping organizations build stronger teams, healthier work environments, and better leadership habits that actually last. The brand evolved because of the relationships built over time and the lessons learned along the way.

Thanks to Shannon Carver, Lean Leaders Plus!

27. To a culture that shapes the brand

As we expanded into new markets and grew our team, we had to ask ourselves what we stood for. For us, that meant getting clear on our values. Customers first. Do the basics right, every time. One team. The brand story evolved from “here's a product” to “here's who we are.” People don't just buy from companies anymore. They choose partners they can trust. The brand evolved from a product pitch to a reflection of who we are as a team. When the internal culture got stronger, the external brand got clearer.

Thanks to Travis Rieken, Easy Ice!

28. Bringing every part together

When I started, my business identity felt much more compartmentalized. I was the business coach, strategist, and growth-focused entrepreneur, while art remained personal. After serious health challenges forced me to slow down and rebuild, creativity became both a healing practice and eventually a business. Today, my brand is far more integrated and authentic. I still coach entrepreneurs on growth, branding, and customer experience, but I also run a destination-inspired art business. The biggest evolution has been moving from a polished professional brand to a much more human one.

Thanks to Maria Langgle, Maria Langgle Art!

29. Adapting through challenges

Lost Coast Oyster Co. has significantly evolved from its early days of oyster farming into a more flexible wholesaling and purveying business shaped by real-world challenges and life changes. Events in the water, market disruptions, inconsistent harvest conditions, and family demands made it difficult to maintain a reliable farming operation. Pivoting allowed us to stay deeply connected to oysters and the industry while building a more resilient model. Today, we combine sourcing work with raw bar pop-ups and events, sharing our knowledge while staying close to the product we love.

Thanks to Lindsay Rosegger, Lost Coast Oyster Co.!

30. Finding a clearer purpose

Our brand has evolved significantly over time. In the early days, the focus was very much on what we did, creating videos that drove conversions and sales outcomes. As the business matured, the brand became much more purpose-driven. Today, it’s less about producing content and more about empowering communities through communication and storytelling. I found that a brand eventually becomes the combination of purpose, positioning, and the impact you want to create.

Thanks to Anthony Lam, Punchy Studio!

+ Vision: The media of choice for CEOs, entrepreneurs and business owners.

+ Philosophy: We love CEOs, entrepreneurs and business owners and everything we do is driven by that. We highlight, capture and support entrepreneurship and start-ups through our niche blog sites.
